Samsung Turns a New Leaf Packaging goes Green

Samsung Electronics announced on the 27th that it will gradually apply paper and eco-friendly materials to its packaging materials instead of plastic and vinyl. This is to actively participate in the resolution of environmental issues, such as resource conservation and increased plastic waste, which have recently become a social issue.

Samsung Electronics is planning to change plastic containers and disposable plastic packaging that are used in mobile products such as mobile phones, tablets, and wearables to paper or eco-friendly materials starting from the first half of this year.

It is going to change plastic containers that were used for products to pulp and paper, and convert plastic that was wrapped around earphones and cables into paper or eco-friendly materials. Especially, it will change the exterior design of the boxes matte and remove surface protection vinyl.

Recycled vinyl and bio vinyl can reduce the use of petrochemical materials. In addition, Samsung Electronics plans to use only paper materials that have been certified Eco-friendly for packaging and manuals of all products by 2020.

“Samsung Electronics is pushing for medium-term goal of resource circulation in order to minimize environmental pollution caused by its products and will apply pulp and biomaterial to its packaging materials instead of plastic.”

Director Jeon Gyeong-bin of Samsung Electronics’ Global Customer Service Center.
