Korean Tech Speed Ahead in Self-Driving with Hyundai Mobis’ Module

Hyundai Mobis introduces ‘M.VISION’, a concept for urban self-driving, at CES 2019.

It is the first time that Hyundai Mobis has unveiled a concept of a future car that is higher than ‘Level 4’, of the SAE self-driving standard ‘J3016’, which makes it completely self-driving in complex urban settings.

The high-tech concept accurately recognizes 360° surroundings by utilizing self-driving kits that are modularized on top of vehicles. The kit combines four LiDAR(pulsed laser reflection system) sensors and five multi-function camera sensors.

Its strength is that it can be applied regardless of size or design of vehicles since it is installed on top of a vehicle’s roof. Hyundai Mobis explains that it is convenient and economical to update the number of sensors or algorithms in a kit without having to modify or change the vehicle itself even if level of self-driving has risen.
