Kakao Brain (Representatives Kim Il-doo, Kim Byung-hak) and Ajou University Hospital (Director Park Joon-seong) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the development of a medical image diagnosis support solution and advanced AI model using ultra-large AI.

Kakao Brain and Ajou University Hospital will jointly promote the establishment of research infrastructure necessary for data learning in medical imaging, advanced AI model enhancement through medical consultation and academic exchange, and performance evaluation of ultra-large AI models for technology commercialization.

Ajou University Hospital, as a medical institution providing the best medical services to patients with severe illnesses and trauma in the Gyeonggi region, will support Kakao Brain’s AI technology research and model development. Additionally, Kakao Brain and Ajou University Hospital have agreed to collaborate on verifying a medical diagnosis support solution based on an ultra-large AI model, aiming to jointly develop a medical image solution based on the world’s largest ultra-large AI model.

Director Lim Hyun of Ajou University Medical Center’s Planning and Coordination Office (also in charge of External Cooperation) stated, “This agreement will be a crucial turning point for Ajou University Hospital, which aims to establish a patient-centered smart hospital infrastructure, maximizing the capabilities of AI medical technology beyond big data through collaboration with Kakao Brain, which possesses competitiveness in the AI field. We will do our best to provide patients with the most up-to-date AI-based personalized medical services that are safe and accurate.”

Representatives of Kakao Brain, Kim Il-doo, expressed, “We are delighted to collaborate with Ajou University Hospital to advance the research of ultra-large AI medical image diagnosis support technology. We will work closely together to develop the world’s largest AI medical image diagnosis support solution, and Kakao Brain will develop models with high levels of technology and competitiveness to lead the global medical imaging field.”

Meanwhile, starting with a business agreement with the Catholic Central Medical Center in July 2022, Kakao Brain has begun joint research to advance ultra-large AI technology in the medical field and has so far signed a total of nine business agreements with university hospitals.

Kakao Brain, a specialized AI research subsidiary of Kakao located in Pangyo Techno Valley, transitioned to a representative system in June 2023 to strengthen its AI capabilities in earnest.
