KG Mobility’s EV Expansion: Torres EVX SUV Set to Hit the Market in Sept

KG Mobility Corp., formerly known as Ssangyong Motor, has announced the forthcoming launch of its all-electric sports utility vehicle (SUV), the “Torres EVX,” scheduled for release in September this year. Following its successful unveiling at the Seoul Mobility Show in March, the Torres EVX is set to mark KG Mobility’s first electrified model under its new name.

After the successful launch of the Korando Emotion in the domestic EV  market in February 2022, the Torres EVX SUV represents KG Mobility’s second entry into the battery-powered vehicle segment.

The Torres EVX utilizes a lithium iron phosphate battery system, providing an expected driving range of over 420 kilometers on a single charge. However, the initial EV model, the Korando Emotion, was exclusively exported due to battery supply constraints, making the Torres EVX the company’s first electric offering in the domestic EV market.

The upcoming Torres EVX E5 model is projected to be priced between 49 million and 50 million won. The more advanced Torres EVX E7 variant is estimated to be priced between 51 million and 52 million won.

With these competitive pricing options, KG Mobility aims to make all-electric mobility more accessible to a broader audience. The company’s previous mid-sized SUV, Mobility, achieved a significant milestone by surpassing 50,000 cumulative sales units within a year since its launch as Ssangyong Motor’s last model.

EVX has a design complemented by its “kinetic lighting block,” featuring horizontal LED daytime running lamps. With a minimum ground clearance of 17.4 cm, the vehicle is optimized for off-road driving, distinguishing itself from other domestic electric SUVs.

The generous front viewing angle of 23.1º enhances the driving experience, providing a sense of openness to drivers. Moreover, the Torres EVX offers ample luggage space, boasting 839ℓ, the widest among its SUV class counterparts.

KG Mobility, a prominent SUV-focused car manufacturer, currently offers a lineup of SUV models, including the Tivoli, Korando, Rexton, Rexton Sports, and Torres SUVs.

KG Mobility experienced a notable sales surge in the year’s first half. From January to June, the company’s sales witnessed a significant 37 percent increase, reaching 64,965 vehicles sold compared to 47,589 units during the same period the previous year.
