On the 23rd, KT unveiled its plan to establish the Responsible AI Center (RAIC), which will be dedicated to ensuring the safety and reliability of AI technology. The center will mitigate potential risks associated with artificial intelligence and promote its beneficial use for users.
With the establishment of RAIC, KT signals its advancement as an AI Communication and Information Technology (AICT) company. The center will focus on conducting research to minimize AI-related risks and developing guidelines to foster responsible AI development.
The center will have particular emphasis on areas like safety, transparency, and privacy protection. By establishing strong risk management systems, KT aims to guide the responsible development and deployment of AI technology, ensuring that it delivers beneficial value to users.
In line with this initiative, KT plans to enhance its existing AI ethical principles and produce practical guidelines for immediate implementation. These principles, established last year, emphasize core values such as fairness, non-discrimination, transparency, and interpretability in AI technology and product development.
Additionally, KT underscores the importance of encouraging a socially responsible approach to AI development through standardization and an open ecosystem that promotes resource and technology sharing.
As international discussions on AI norms gain momentum, KT is actively engaging in collaboration with Canada’s Vector Institute, a leading AI research institution, focusing on promoting ‘Responsible AI.’
With the partnership, KT plans to establish governance systems that ensure that AI technologies are used in accordance with societal values and objectives. The recent passage of AI legislation in the EU and the upcoming AI Summit in Seoul shows the global significance of these efforts, highlighting the need for cohesive international frameworks for AI regulation and ethical standards.
With the RAIC, KT aims to materialize a governance structure that facilitates the ethical and responsible use of AI technologies, fostering collaboration and dialogue with global partners like the Vector Institute to advance the development and deployment of AI in a manner consistent with societal values and aspirations.
KT is actively seeking to expand its team at the Responsible AI Center (RAIC) by recruiting experts in various fields, including AI ethics, policy development, software engineering, and data science. Detailed information regarding job openings can be found on the KT Group’s recruitment website.
Executive Director of the RAIC, Soon-min Bae, reiterated KT’s dedication to advancing ‘Responsible AI,’ emphasizing the importance of embodying ethical values such as transparency, fairness, and safety in AI technology. Bae emphasized KT’s vision of AI as a transformative force that enhances daily life and industry while positively impacting society.
