LG Electronics Inc. has partnered with Josun Hotels & Resorts Co., a hotel chain operator based in South Korea, to develop robots tailored to the hospitality industry.
This partnership aims to address the increasing demand for automation in hotels, focusing on enhancing efficiency and productivity across various hotel services such as housekeeping and butler assistance.
By leveraging their expertise, both companies aim to design and demonstrate cart-type robots optimized for hotel use, with plans for gradual implementation to streamline hotel processes.
In collaboration with Josun Hotels & Resorts, LG Electronics will repurpose LG’s CLOi CarryBot, originally designed for logistics purposes, to develop specialized robots tailored for hotel services.
Developed under the CLOi brand, LG Electronics‘ service robots encompass a range of functionalities, including serving, guiding, and carrying tasks. This initiative aligns with LG’s broader strategy to diversify its offerings and tap into the growing demand for automation solutions across various industries.
These robots will be tested at The Westin Josun Seoul in central Seoul before being deployed across the nine properties of the hotel group. Equipped with advanced artificial intelligence technology, the focus will be on enhancing autonomous driving capabilities, wireless communication systems, and robot traffic control to ensure seamless operation alongside human staff in busy hotel environments.
The compact size of these cart-type robots will enable them to navigate narrow hallways effortlessly, offering ample storage space for various hotel tasks. Beyond traditional room service and housekeeping, the envisioned robots aim to assist with larger-scale events such as parties and conferences and facilitate the transportation of bulk food ingredients.
As part of LG’s commitment to robotics innovation, the company has invested in multiple ventures, including acquisitions and partnerships with startups specializing in wearable robotics and artificial intelligence.
Josun Hotels & Resorts’ CEO Lee Ju-hee expressed optimism about the partnership, emphasizing the potential for improved productivity and enhanced customer service resulting from the integration of LG’s cutting-edge robotics solutions.
The global market for hospitality robots is expected to grow in the coming years, with projections indicating a surge to $341.91 million by 2027, driven by a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.13%. Hotels worldwide increasingly turn to robotics to streamline operations, reduce expenses, and elevate the overall guest experience.
Robots capable of operating round-the-clock without breaks enable hotel staff to focus on more complex tasks while handling routine delivery and cleaning services efficiently.
Moreover, robots offer the potential to deliver personalized services to hotel patrons, enhancing their overall stay experience. As robotic technologies advance, hotel robots have become more cost-effective, dependable, and versatile in performing various tasks. LG Electronics’ introduction of self-driving hospitality robots at The Westin Josun Seoul exemplifies this trend, with robots equipped to deliver food and beverages, meal ingredients, and housekeeping supplies to hotel guests.
