LG Electronics said on Thursday that it would unveil a high-tech indoor gardening appliance at the upcoming Consumers Electronics Show (CES) 2020 in Las Vegas, venturing into the booming indoor gardening movement.

The South Korean tech giant will exhibit the revolutionary built-in column-type indoor gardening appliance featuring advanced light, temperature and water control, a growth-monitoring app, and convenient all-in-one seed packages.

The premium appliance aids users to cultivate flavorful and nutrient-rich green, automating most of the vegetable cultivation processes, in the comfort of their homes.

The company said that the all-in-one seed packages include seeds, peat moss, and fertilizer for easy planting. The initial packages will contain 20 different types of grains, including various types of lettuce, romaine, chicory, basil, and arugula.

LG designed the new device for millions of consumers globally, enabling users to cultivate crisp, fresh herbs, and vegetables with the peace of mind in knowing exactly where their food comes from and what is in their diet. The appliance gives the benefit of an all-year-round food source, which is perfect for urban-dwellers or users pursuing a healthier lifestyle.

The state-of-the-art gardening device employs flexible modules, replicating the ideal outdoor conditions for growing plants by precisely adjusting the temperature inside the insulated cabinet with the time of day.

Forced air circulation, LED lights, and wick-based water management enables seeds to transform quickly into ingredients producing food material for delicious recipes and dishes.
The cutting-edge technology is capable of holding up to 24 all-in-one seed packages to enjoy the culinary advantages and benefits of cooking home-grown produce.

LG Electronics’ know-how and leadership in appliance technologies are evident in the indoor gardening cultivator.

A primary component in the automated gardening technology is LG’s non-circulating water supply system, which evenly distributes the precise amount of liquid that the plant packages require. The central technology prohibits algae growth and prevents unpleasant smells for a more hygienic environment.

Whisen’s air conditioner technology helps optimize the flow of air, allowing for leafy vegetables and natural herbs to grow healthy.
A companion smartphone app helps consumers monitor and manage their plants, providing useful guidance at each step along the way to guarantee a successful harvest every time.

President of LG Electronics Home Appliance and Air Solution Company Dan Song said, “With more and more consumers these days living vegetarian and vegan lifestyles, it was important for us to contribute to this trend.” He added, “Our first indoor gardening solution represents a new paradigm for LG in home appliances.”
