‘Lineage’ mobile games popularity brings record sales in 2022 for gaming major NCSoft

NCSoft's mobile game 'Lineage M' has got global fan following.

The global popularity of mobile games Lineage W’ and ‘Lineage M’ has got Korean game company NCSoft Corp. will achieve record sales in 2022. NCSoft reported that it posted 559 billion won ($442. Million) in operating profit in 2022, up 49 percent from a year ago.

The company’s sales increased 11.4 percent to 2.6 trillion won and net profit 14.4 percent to 452.6 billion won. Especially the mobile game sales reached an all-time high of 1.9 trillion won, up 20 percent from a year ago, accounting for 76.8 percent of its entire revenue.

“Participation from global users was high in Lineage W, as we launched a big update to commemorate the first anniversary of its release,” said Lee Jang-woo, a director of investor relations at NCSoft. “Lineage M continues to see solid traffic.”

Sales from Lineage W reached 970.8 billion won, Lineage M 516.5 billion won, Lineage 2M 391.5 billion won, and Blade & Soul 2 55.6 billion won.

NCSoft’s PC game sales also reached 390.4 billion won in 2022, accounting for 15.2 percent of the total sales. “Lineage” raised 107 billion, “Guild Wars 2” 95 billion won, “Lineage 2” 94 billion won, and “AION: The Tower of Eternity” 68 billion won.

In the sales pie, Korea accounted for 63.2 percent of the entire sales, followed by Asia (24.3 percent), North America and Europe (6.4 percent). NCSoft’s overall operating costs rose 4 percent on year to 2.01 trillion won. The game company will soon launch new PC and console platform titles in the global market, including “Thrown and Liberty.”
