South Korean electronic component company LG Innotek announced that it had created the Nexlide-E, a high-performance lighting module for automotive. As LG Innotek stated, it developed the Nexlide-E module to enhance drivers’ and passengers’ comfort and safety. LG Innotek also developed Nexlide-E to strengthen its foothold and increase its shares in the global automotive lighting module market.
According to the company, the Nexlide-E, which produces bright and uniform light, consists of three major parts:
- LG Innotek installed an LED light source package to a thin, optical resin-furnished substrate fixed on the light module.
- The Nexlide-E contains optical resins that function as a module covering and substrate protection.
- The electronic component manufacturer placed a thin optical film that enables the module to diffuse bright light evenly.
Customers could also use the newly developed technology as a headlight, a stop lamp, or a taillight.
Moreover, Nexlide-E provides 63% higher brightness than previous automotive lighting products, raising maximum brightness from 80 candelas to 130 candelas. LG Innotek’s new lighting solution also offers smoother uniform light with no blind spots, light level drops, or sudden breaks. To perform these functions, the company attached a new 0.2mm-thick optical film to the lighting module. LG Innotek also incorporated its micropatterning technique into the latest optical film, enabling it to create different lighting effects.
In addition to producing complex lighting effect changes, Nexlide-E optimizes space usage by combining multiple vehicle lamps into one module. As a result, the lighting module consumes less power, creating a beneficial feature for electric, hybrid, and hydrogen vehicles. The Nexlide-E also allows vehicle manufacturers to save component costs and design more compact lighting technologies, promoting space efficiency.
Expanding Innovative Automotive Solutions
“The Nexlide-E is an innovative product that satisfies the customer needs for distinctive automotive lighting designs that give characters to vehicles,” said Ryu In-Soo, VP of LG Innotek’s Automotive Components & Electronics Business Division. “With the Nexlide brand, LG Innotek will continue to deliver safe and enjoyable driving experiences with the automotive light source solution.”
Previously, LG Innotek established Nexlide, its vehicle lighting brand that integrates next-generation technologies to develop high-efficiency and high-stability LED modules. For the brand’s name, LG Innotek combines the terms, ‘next,’ ‘lighting,’ and ‘device.’ Besides providing automotive lighting products, the Nexlide brand also delivers customization services such as optical device designing, light design proposal, and more.
Recently, the company has actively strengthened its vehicle lighting business division after gaining support from major international clients. Furthermore, LG would utilize Nexlide-E to tackle the global automotive lighting module sector. To this end, the company would continue developing next-gen lighting modules and other automotive products. During 2021’s latter half, the first Nexlide-E-equipped vehicle would be mass-produced. This year, LG Innotek also created the world’s first next-generation Wi-Fi 6E module for in-vehicle infotainment.
