South Korea gears up to bring World Expo 2030 to Busan

The inspections are around the corner for the World Expo 2030. South Korea is gearing up to bring the upcoming expo to Busan. The Busan Expo Bidding Committee organized a meeting on Friday which highlighted the nation’s potential in winning the expo host title.

With the completion of World Expo 2020, all eyes are now set on the World Expo 2030 whose host hasn’t been decided yet. South Korea along with other candidature countries – Italy, Saudi Arabia and Ukraine are going to compete to get the host chair for the World Expo.

To decide the perfect host nation, an enquiry mission will be undertaken by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE). The BIE team will ascertain the feasibility and motivation status of all 4 candidatures. After the evaluations, in November this year, the results are set to be out. The host will be picked through a secret ballot which runs on the principle of one country one vote.

World Expos are dedicated events which have helped humanity overcome challenges via engaging and problem-solving attitudes. World Expo opens doors for immense opportunities with a great amount of exposure from international media. The recent Expo 2020 Dubai was themed around connecting minds and creating a future. Next up, Expo 2025 hosted by Japan will be centred around designing a future society for living.

For Expo 2030, so far Saudi Arabia’s enquiries have been done by the BIE team. The upshots of Saudi Arabia came out astonishing as the country is putting a robust case and commitment to do extensive investments in countries voting in favour.

The Friday meeting was attended by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and Busan Expo Bidding Committee’s Chairman Chey Tae-won as well as Prime Minister Han Duck-soo. Chairman Chey emphasized ramping up the bidding efforts for the upcoming inspections scheduled between 3 to 7 April.

Likewise, PM Han conveyed that the competition is going to be intensified till the results are announced. A good amount of attention has been given to advertising by the Korean government. They want to make local as well as overseas masses aware of World Expo 2030 bids. At the same time, the government is boosting its lobby in foreign lands. The fourth competition presentation that’s going to happen in June was also included in the meeting discussions.

If South Korea lands the hosting country’s position then it will give a lift to their economy. It is estimated that the Expo in Busan could generate about $46.9 billion. In 2022, with the understanding of how much this could benefit the nation economically, leading indigenous companies in South Korea allied. Samsung Electronics, LG Corporation, Lotte, Posco and more big names will be endorsing the Busan bid.

The meeting acknowledged the power instituted within public and private sector policies and capabilities. South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has planned to leverage the World Climate Industry Expo platform. Between May 24 and 27 the Busan Expo proposal will be underscored by the ministry. On the other hand, the foreign affairs ministry will be giving extra attention to World Expo bidding at a diplomatic level.

South Korea’s KCCI has requested support from Portugal, a country with a vast renewable energy infrastructure and geo-strategically important connecting Europe with South America. South Korea looks forward to cooperation from countries in Europe as well as Caribbean countries to usher the World Expo to Busan.
